Past Meetings Meeting you may have missed. January 12, 2010
Ray's "Six Critical Questions" for Mike Hogan!
Mike Hogan - Tax Collector LOCAL BOY DONE GOOD! This should be the headline for any newspaper or magazine article about Mike Hogan, the 2nd term Tax Collector for Duval County. Mike, as he is known by so many, began the meeting with the real story of Lady Godiva. The only reason she rode naked through town was to meet the challenge of her husband the Duke, he said he would lower taxes if she would ride through town naked…she did! I hope He did as well! (lower the taxes that is!) Mr. Hogan reads every E-Mail he receives and answers 90% of them. The name is what they do – collect taxes. He answers all kinds of questions and if they do not pertain to his office, he refers them accordingly. Mike Hogan conducted the program around a Tax Collector’s Test. He likes to give these tests to his audience to see how much they know about Jacksonville. TAX

Governor Mike then went over the “Tax Collectors Test” and gave silver dollars to attendees with the correct answers. Overall Mike reported that there was a 20 Praises versus 1 Complaint ratio at his office which employs 224 people who are the salaried among most Tax Collections in the State and last year receipts were 2.2 billion dollars from 103 different sources the office is required to collect. This number of different sources is 10 times the number of any other tax office. A new service being implemented at the community agencies is the ability to get your Florida Drivers License! A person with: a certified copy of the Birth Certificate, an original Social Security card, and two other proofs of name and address can take the driver’s test, road test and also renew a license. Mike advised those in attendance to go to the Tax Collectors web site and view the Web Cams waiting room of the location you are planning on visiting! If it’s full DON’T GO! (www.coj.net/taxcollector) . Mike then held a Q & A period. Thanks you Mike Hogan, local boy done good!
