Marisa Carbone Finotti

JEA Home Energy Team

Our speaker for our January 10th meeting was Marisa Carbone Finotti with the JEA home energy team. Ms. Finotti was both entertaining and informative as she explained the content and usage of the JEA Do-it yourself home energy evaluation kit. Ms Finotti Works for a non-profit organization called the Green Team Project that contracts with the JEA. She explained various ways our energy is wasted in the home, how we can detect this loss, and suggestion to prevent future loss.   As Ms. Finotti explained, by preventing wasted energy in our homes, we can contribute to a greener environment while saving on our energy bills.

The JEA Do-it yourself home energy evaluation kit is available at all the Jacksonville Libraries and can be checked out free with a library card. The kit includes an energy audit guide, an infrared thermometer, Kill-a-watt meters, and other tools needed to complete the energy audit.  In speaking of lost energy in the home, Ms. Finotti told us that the air conditioner/heater is the largest consumption of energy item in the home. Some of the suggestions to prevent lost energy were to set thermostats to 68 degrees in the winter and 78 degrees in the summer, replace incandescent lights with new florescent energy bulbs, and put water restrictors on water faucets and shower heads.

Officer of the Quarter

Officer Trey Oman III

We honored our Officer of the Quarter.

On November 14, 2011, Officer Oman noticed a stolen Ford F-250 that was used in the several residential burglaries. After following the vehicle, Officer Oman and another officer attempted to pull the truck over on Edgewood Ave. The Ford truck smashed into the other officer’s patrol car and led the two officers on a chase. The truck crashed at the intersection of New Kings Road and Edgewood Ave. The two males ran from the truck but were apprehended by Officer Oman and his fellow officer. Later, Officer Oman found two guns, stolen credit cards and a safety deposit box in the truck.
