DID
YOU KNOW THAT A DEAD PERSON CAN VOTE? One may think this is old time
plotting and back room politics, however Supervisor of Elections Jerry
Holland told a nearly full house at the August 10 regular club meeting
that a dead person’s vote counts! Now here’s his explanation. Anytime
someone chooses to “Absentee Vote by Mail” , completes the ballot,
signs it and then mails it back, THAT VOTE COUNTS even if the person who
sent in the absentee ballot dies prior to the election! Mr.
Holland never ceases to amaze the audience with quick wit and rapid
presentations. One knows he loves his position and knows his job after
listening. Jerry Holland presented an overview of the different amendments that will show up on the ballots. He explained that a few are still being challenged in court; he expects most of the amendments to be presented to the voters. While
there is no space on this forum to discuss all the amendments, anyone

All Members From:
Patricia Hamn I
am sincerely proud to be a member of the Northside Business
Leaders. Observing
each of the seven scholarship recipients receiving one thousand
dollars toward their education was a heart-warming experience
for me, as I’m positive it was for all of you that attended.
As I looked across the room, I saw the same proud spirit
on the faces of each member.
I may be wrong, but as far as I know, this was the first
year we had twins receiving scholarships. Our
Club demonstrates the importance of education by this generous
act of giving. You
couldn’t help but hear the gratitude in the voices of each
student as they accepted their awards.
Each student was accompanied by, either a parent,
relative or mentor to stand with them at the podium.
If you were there, you also saw that same humble
gratitude expressed by each of them.
At
the end of the meeting I did ask each student to stand one last
time for the expressed purpose of extending an invitation for
them to join the NSBL after graduation and choosing their career
path. These kids
truly are our future and I’d be honored to have them in our
Club. This
prestigious Club stands out as a beacon of light for many of
these recipients. We
don’t know for sure, but, without this gift some of them may
have had to postpone their plans for continuing education until
a later date. The
Northside Business Leaders are making a difference….and for
that….you should be proud, too! I
hope to see all of you at the Banquet on September 16th.
Ray Turner has some surprises in store for you.
I’m sure you’ll be as impressed as I am. PS – For those who could not attend the August 10th, meeting, visit the website for all the details. As always, Paul Forte has covered every detail. Sincerely, Patricia
Hamn,
