Barry Bobek, Attorney At Law

Each month, I will be interviewing a Northside Businness Leaders member. This month, I interviewed Barry Bobek, who is a practicing attorney and a Past President of The Northside Business Leaders. It is my hope that we can all learn something new about each other and our respective fields.

Mr. Bobek has been a trial lawyer for 28 years. His general trial practice leads him in a variety of directions: contracts, land disputes, marital law, and injury, to name a few.

He served as a 1st Lieutinent in Vietnam. After his tour was over, he went to college and majored in Political Science. After that, he decided to go to law school.

His favorite part of his field is the challenge, the variety of issues, and the people he gets to meet. He warns that trial litigation involves a lot of work, and anxiety that goes with appearing before a jury and/or a judge that may or may not have a favorable opinion of the case. If he were to hire an attorney for himself, he would ask around, find someone involved in the community, that had time for him, cared about his circumstances, and most importantly, would advocate for him.

I asked him what he would recommend to a young person who wanted to go into the field of law. He stressed motivation, an ability to handle the pressure that comes with the work, and a passion for the work itself. “Anytime work doesn’t seem like work, you’re in the right job.”

When he is not working, he likes to sail, working around the house, going to the gym, and staying active in the community.
